Africa Education Project
“Lack of an education is more costly than an education.”

The Kenya Education Project (KEP) Board of Directors oversees the AEP program in Kenya. Although connected with AEP in the USA, the KEP Board is an autonomous and independent governing entity of the program in Kenya.

KEP is charged with the important and challenging task of ensuring that every child in Kenya has an opportunity to pursue an education. We are proud to present the following dedicated individuals who oversee the AEP program in Kenya.

Monique Obongo, President
When the KEP Board of Directors was being formed, Monique was sought after to lead the KEP mission because of her leadership abilities, dedication to quality and commitment to education. Monique obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi and later returned on scholarship to complete her master’s degree. She has been a true trailblazer in the area of women in higher education. She has always persevered even when the obstacles were great. Monique has great compassion for Kenyan youth who miss an opportunity to gain an education due to financial constraints. She feels volunteering with KEP is a great way to give back to society. The quality of her life is based on making a difference in someone else's life. When she is not volunteering her time directing and overseeing the efforts of KEP, she works for the Government of Kenya’s Ministry of Lands. Monique enjoys dancing and listening to music. She loves traveling and has traveled to several countries on the African continent and has also traveled to Germany and the United States. She has two children, Tony (age 12) and Leslie (age 9). Monique has lived in many different regions in Kenya including Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu, Nyahururu, Kiambu, Thika and Machakos. She currently lives in Nairobi.

Mugambi Mtwaiti, Treasurer
Mugambi Mtwaiti is a certified public accountant (CPA) in Kenya. Although he has an extremely busy schedule, he somehow finds time to manage the finances of the Kenya Education Project. He is dedicated to using his financial skills to give young people an opportunity to pursue an education. Mugambi was instrumental in revamping and renewing KEP's financial management system during a vital time in its history. He is very community-minded and also volunteers his accounting services for the Kerwa Community Project which is supported by Claretian Missionaries. Mugambi is a 1998 graduate of Moi University located in Eldoret, Kenya. He also attended Star College of Management, Focus Business Institute, Institute of Advanced Technology, and School of Credit Management, all located in Nairobi. He enjoys playing guitar, attending theater stage plays and reading comedy/satire and poetry books. Mugambi lives in Nairobi.
