  • How long has the Africa Education Project existed? Africa Education Project was officially registered in North Carolina in September 2003. The organization is also registered in the State of Louisiana since September 2004.
  • Where can I find information about the official status of the Africa Education Project?   • Where has AEP completed projects? AEP has sponsored projects in Kenya, Uganda, Namibia and Mozambique. A South African project will be launched in early 2007. All of our current scholars are in Kenya and Uganda. During subsequent years, we plan to take on scholars in other African countries. All fundraising activities have taken place in the US (Boston, Massachusetts; Atlanta, Georgia; Raleigh, North Carolina and New Orleans, Louisiana.)
  • How many young people have been sponsored by the Africa Education Project? In 2006, there were 12 scholars in secondary school and one scholar in primary school. In 2005, seven scholars were sponsored: five in high school, one in vocational school and one in elementary school. In 2004, seven scholars were sponsored. Six received scholarships to secondary school and one received a scholarship to vocational school.
  • How many AEP scholars have graduated from secondary school and vocational school? AEP has never had a student in its program drop out of school. In 2006, six scholars graduated from secondary school. In 2005, four scholars completed secondary school and one completed vacational school (carpentry). In 2004, one student graduated from secondary school.
  • How many staff members work for the Africa Education Project? Two. One staff member is based in the US and one staff member is based in Kenya. All positions are voluntary.
  • How can I donate to the Africa Education Project? We accept donations in the form of checks, credit cards and cash. Checks should be made out to Africa Education Project. You will receive a receipt for all donations received. Credit card donations are accepted on AEP's behalf through JustGive and Network For Good. Make an online donation now.
  • How will my donation be used? 100% of all donations support the AEP Education Fund. The Fund is used to directly support needy students in Africa. Donations are used for school fees, books, school uniforms, and other costs associated with school. Donations are not used for salaries or operating budgets. AEP's Annual Reports contain financial details for the US and Africa offices.
  • Is my donation tax deductible? YES! The Africa Education Project is proud to report that the Internal Revenue Service approved on March 15, 2005, AEP's application for designation as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations given to AEP since the organization's inception on September 4, 2003, are tax-deductible.
  • How can I volunteer with the Africa Education Project? We have volunteer opportunities available in Nairobi, Kenya, as well as in the US (Raleigh, North Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia and New Orleans, Louisiana). Virtual positions are also available in which volunteer work is done completely over the internet and/or phone. There are several mentor positions needed in Nairobi, Kenya.   • How long has the organization sponsored the Run for Education in Africa Team? The year 2004 was the inaugural year for the team. AEP plans to sponsor a team every other year. The 2006 team took on marathons in Buffalo (NY), Chicago, Philadelphia and Atlanta.
