Africa Education Project hosts African celebrations in the US to raise money for the AEP Scholarship Fund. The party fundraisers are called "Karamu," which simply means "party or festival" in Kiswahili. Karamu is the Africa Education Project's signature fundraising event. 100% of the profits from Karamu celebrations ALWAYS directly support the education of deserving young people in Africa through the AEP Scholarship Fund. Karamu events usually include dinner, show and after-party.

The first Karamu event was held in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2001, and the second event was held in Atlanta, Georgia. The third through fifth annual events were held in the Triangle area of North Carolina. The goal of Karamu events is always two-fold: (1) to raise money for the AEP Scholarship Fund and (2) to have a fun event that exposes people to African food, music, culture as well as social issues.
