Africa Education Project

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Africa Education Project! We are always looking for enthusiastic people interested in using their skills to educate others and give disadvantaged African youth new opportunities. To become an AEP volunteer, you must complete an AEP volunteer application and interview. Once accepted into the volunteer program, AEP staff will work with you to develop a volunteer assignment suited to your skills and interests and our organizational needs.

Karamu Volunteers

Africa Education Project is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help us stage a successful Karamu 2007 celebration in October 2007. There are ample opportunities to use your talents to contribute to our worthy case. Karamu committees are as follows: Decorations/Set Up, Dinner Committee, Publicity Committee, Sponsorship Committee, and Ticket Sales Committee. Auditor/Certified Public Accountant

Sound financial management is paramount to the Africa Education Project. Our organization is seeking a qualified auditor or certified public account to review our finances at the end of the year.

Assistant Executive Director

An Assistant Executive Director is needed to assist the Executive Director in the operations and management of the Africa Education Project US Program. The Assistant Executive Director will give particular focus to the organization and publicity of AEP fundraising activities in the US.

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana or Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC (preferably but flexible)

Mentors

Mentors are needed to work with AEP scholars. Mentors serve as responsible adult role models in the life of a young person. Our goal is to help these young people make successful life decisions and to provide them with a strong support system. Mentors spend time with an AEP scholar individually as well as in a group setting. Fun group activities are planned by AEP staff and are at no cost to the volunteer.

Webmaster

A webmaster is needed to update the Africa Education Project's website and to create new web pages as needed.

Event Coordinators

The Africa Education Project hosts fundraising events throughout the year. Events usually take place in the southeastern United States (Louisiana, Georgia and North Carolina). All events are intended to raise money for the AEP Scholarship Fund. Coordinators are needed to plan parties, variety shows and other special events.

Locations: Raleigh, North Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Researchers

AEP researchers will research topics for grant applications and for the AEP website. Researchers will also research and identify viable public and private grants. Volunteers should feel comfortable conducting internet research.

Grant Writers

Grant writers are needed to assist in the preparation of grant applications to fund AEP projects. Current grant topics include: (1) capacity building of secondary school teachers in Africa, (2) microenterprise and entrepreneur program for youth in vocational training, (3) teaching Africa in American schools, (4) expanding AEP's ALJ scholarship program and (5) AEP college scholarship program. Opportunities are open to both experienced and inexperienced writers looking for skill-enhancing opportunities.
